News : We have moved to a better location !

The Market will be back on 5th March 2011

The Art Market has moved to Thorpe Close under the Westway flyover, opposite Ladbroke Grove Station, directly adjoining the Vintage Clothes area of Portobello Market.

The major bonus is that this location has an amazing natural footfall – it is the entrance to the market when you arrive at by bus or tube at Ladbroke Grove station, and therefore the exit on your way home. Unlike many on the main Portobello Market we have a clearly defined area so if clients want to think about a purchase, they can easily find us again either later that day or on a subsequent Saturday.

Any locals going to the Portobello Green Fitness Centre from Ladbroke Grove have to pass through our Art Market. Local residents may well be our best clients as our work is at times dramatic, serious, fun, have a price reflecting the expertise, or may just be very large and therefore a considered rather than an impulse purchase.
There is a big sign beside the entrance and we are lucky to have both Marco & his Orange Coffee Van, with his tables, chairs & relaxed ambiance, and the Belgium Chocolate Stand next to us. Not only are their wares delicious but they encourage passers by to linger.
The move has come at a good time for several reasons :

Despite the recession people still appreciate well made, cleverly designed, unusual, unique objects especially with added value. Meeting the artist adds interest, and going home with work you love that is likely to have cost a fraction of the price if sold in a Gallery or shop adds a certain feel good factor.

There is renewed media led interest in Notting Hill. The reality TV show, “Seven Days” was filmed in the streets around Portobello. For better or worse Portobello Market has featured in a few series of “The Apprentice”. I am still surprised at how regularly I am asked where the ‘blue door’ is from the film Notting Hill.
